Truck 'N' Roll is a quarterly magazine published in Polish and distributed free of charge at many industry-specific locations such as truck stops, transport companies, service depots for truckers and truck driving schools throughout Ontario. It also is circulated at the major points of distribution of Polish press in the province.
Polish-Canadians constitute a very large group of professionals working in the transportation industry. It is estimated that they number about 10,000 in Ontario alone. They have been involved in the trucking branch of the industry in North America since its origins but it was the last big wave of immigrants that arrived on the continent in the 1980s and 1990s that made them one of the single largest ethnic group in the industry. There are also about 70,000 Polish truckers in the regions of Chicago, Buffalo and Detroit alone, many of whom cross the border into Ontario on a regular basis.
Many immigrants, regardless of their age and original profession, upon their arrival obtained professional driver licenses, eventually bought trucks and began careers in the trucking industry. They are ambitious and hard work- ing people; oftentimes referred to by their Canadian coun- terparts as 'wanting to earn in a few years as much as oth- ers would in a few lifetimes'. It is for these people that since 1999 we have been addressing our magazine.
In addition, the publishing office and The Polish Trucker's Club, that operates as the magazine's subsidiary, have organized numerous educational expositions, safety-related cours- es and activities propagating safe coexistence for passenger vehicles and tractor trailers on our roads. We have also organized numerous community events, and promoted awareness and respect for this group of Polish professionals among the general public by appearing in various media outlets. Moreover, as an addition to the Polish trucking culture, we also publish CDs with Polish country music.
The magazine contains information regarding all aspects of the trucking industry and essentially constitutes a forum that addresses issues that are unique to the trucking lifestyle. Among stories and accounts that deal with day to day lives of the people who are involved in the business it also provides Polish truckers with easy access to comprehensive information regarding products and services that are available on the market.
We invite you to cooperate with us.
